todays bets:

Dog Bet £20 - lost - £20
2.05 Memphis Man £10e/w - lost - £20
2.50 Schindlers Society £20e/w - lost - £40
4.20 Wigrams Turn £40 - lost - £40

today - £120                       total - £204.70                  bank + £795.30

It looks like a case of one step forward and two steps back at the moment with a desperate day today when i never had a sniff of a winner. The day started with a bet on a dog running in the steel city, after taking first show at 5/2 and watching it get backed into 13/8 i was expecting it to show his metal but it was very slow away and never threatened after that.

Memphis Man looked to have an each-way chance but i certainly wasn't singing the blues after it could manage only fifth under the female rider!
Schindlers Society was high on my list as a previous winner under similar conditions but ran an absolute stinker and was pulled up when a fence behind, but could the day get worse? too true it could.

Wigrams Turn was running on the all weather and they had seen a few quid in the offices for him so although the form was dreadful a decent run was half expected, at least this horse had a view of the leaders backside until the race started properly coming to the home turn, then in less time than a Liverpudlian can remove a car stereo he was last! a dreadful ending to a dreadful day and surely this half ton of horse will soon be processed into something different.

Tomorrow is another day and hopefully a better day.

todays bets:

Double £20 - lost - £20
2.20 Roccos Hall £10 - lost -£10
2.50 Tornado Shay £10 - lost - £10
3.05 Sun Des Mottes £25 - lost - £25
4.05 Saphir Des  Bois - lost - £10

today - £75            total - £84.70                bank + £915.30

Welcome to my new followers up to double figures now, i wish i had good news for you but today was a disaster with six bets and the only winner being in a barney rubble with a loser.

Not a lot to say about today the most disappointing bet being Sun Des Mottes who looked uneasy before the race, was last most of the way and was never involved in the race and too be honest i've seen donkeys on Blackpool beach given harder races!

The one that almost gave me a return was Saphir Des Bois who followed the leader from start to finish being a length down at the finish, the other two single bets where hopeless and i had one short price winner in the double with the other leg being woeful.

So all in all a day where i should have took a step back and not really got involved as much.

todays bets:

1.25 Blue Moon £20 - DH 9/2 + £45
2.00 Bakbenscher £10 - lost - £10
3.10 Colour Clash £20e/w - placed + £8
3.35 Grand Crus £80 - won 11/4 + £220
4.10 Aather £20e/w - lost - £40
4.10 Cockney Trucker - £20e/w - placed + £35

today + £258              total  - £9.70          bank + £990.30

Welcome to my new follower hope you endure the ride!

A welcome good day which started when Blue Moon looking like he was stuck in traffic found a way through to win (or so i thought) only to be called a dead heat, upon seeing the photo on tv my horse just had his head high while the other horse 's head was down, upon checking BF Blue Moon traded at 1.03 so most people thought it had won but only a tenner was my winning stake not a score.

Bakbenscher made a few mistakes and was never likely to win, Colour Clash hit the front two out and finished a well beaten third. Then the biggest bet of the day, Grand Crus i had a few reservations about after hearing some of the 'experts' on tv saying the ground was a bit firm for him! Close to race time i was very confident when the market and exchanges saw plenty of support for him and after being towards the back early it was a pleasure to see him cut through the opposition faster than a Kenyan with a dinner ticket and the race was soon in the bag long before the home turn, a very satisfying feeling, if only i was on him for the festival but was unsure about which race he was going for, he is my banker of the meeting and will torture BB if he goes for the World Hurdle.

The 4.10 was a race where i had two running for me, Cockney Trucker jumped to the right every jump and looked like being out of the money but stayed on well for a place, Aather was ridden wide all the way and ran an extra two furlongs, why the nugget rode like that i don't know and he finished only a couple of lengths from being placed, but all in all no harm done.

So a good day which was needed! Glass of malt in my hand, takeaway soon to be delivered, dragon out at a 40th party, snooker and prizefighter on tv, will somebody please tell me i haven't died and gone to heaven?

28th/jan/2011

todays bets:

2.15 Dances With Wolves £5e/w - lost - £10
2.30 Mostly Bob £40 - won 4/1 + £160
2.55 Agus A Vic £40e/w + £20 - lost -£100
4.30 Blaise Chorus £15 - lost - £15
4.30 Westhaven £5e/w - lost -£10
5.40 Admiral Duque £6 - lost - £6
6.40 Full Bloom £10 - lost - £10

today + £9            total - £267.70                         bank + £732.30

Today very much hinged on my runner in the Emerald Isle, sadly my five score went astray when all the logic and statistics went well out of the window.
Horses with big weights can't win this race and you guessed the top weight won all four places where filled by horses at the top of the handicap, my bet Agus A Vic was pulled up before the last after never landing a blow, personally i think the ground was not soft enough for him, hence the top weights coming out on top.

Mostly Bob was a welcome winner, was pleasing on the eye as his only danger was the fences from a long way out and gave me more pleasure than a blind puff working his first shift is a sausage factory would have!

Although i was safe after Mostly Bob had won another winner would have been nice but it was not too be, five runners on the sand and not one cent returned, why Dane O'Neill was waving his stick coming round the home bend riding Westhaven was beyond me as there was nothing behind him!

Tomorrow looks sure to be a busy day and with a bit of luck a large glass of Scotch would be nice to round off a successful day, fingers crossed anyway.

27/jan/2011

todays bets:

e/w treble £2 - lost - £2
1.40 Shaking Hands £25 - won  7/2 + £87.50
1.50 Charming Lad £40 - lost - £40
4.05 Plunkett £20 - lost - £20
4.15 Laura Land £5.50 - lost - £5.50
5.20 Crystalize £10e/w - placed + £3
7.20 Methally £20e/w - lost - £40

today - £17            total - £276.70                 bank + £723.30

Another great start to the day with a nice priced winner.

Shaking Hands certainly showed his metal after being headed coming around the last turn and looking beat then staying on well coming to the second last and winning easily, things where looking good after that winner as i was just about guaranteed not to do much damage to my bank.

Charming Lad although prominent till the race started properly three hurdles from home was never going to trouble the judge and my whisky vouchers where soon waving me goodbye, Plunkett always finds one too good and today was no exception as he was booked for second before the jockey fell out of the side door after the second last, if this donkey is ever in a walkover then it surely would fall in the paddock!

Laura Land ran a good race and looked promising till the home straight, although in an apprentice race the jockey could always pursue a career directing aircraft when his riding career is over, Crystalize travelled very well from a long way back, took the lead a furlong out and got swamped just holding on for third for a small profit and my final bet couldn't get a place to make today a profitable day.

So i guess today could be classed as a damage limitation day, tomorrow could be a good day as i have a tasty bet lined up which could earn me some serious bottles of Scotland's finest, weather permitting of course!

26/jan/2011

todays bets:

Double £20 - lost - £20
Pelmanism £40 - won 5/2 + £100
Fear Nothing £5 e/w - lost - £10
Chaqueta £5 e/w - lost - £10
Stirling Bridge £10 - lost - £10

today + £50               total - £259.70         bank + 740.30

Well what can i say about today, very disappointing to be only two ponies in front after Pelmanism won with my opening bet and with a tidy double rolling onto an odds on shot things where looking good, pity it was given a very uninspiring ride after the race turned into a three furlong sprint and unable to make up the lead he had given the winner, disappointing.

Two all weather each-way bets at decent prices followed, the judge certainly did have nothing to fear from both of them. My final bet looked to have a decent chance but was yet again found seriously wanting when the gun was put to his head.

I guess i showed a small profit which is a step in the right direction, it is always a pain when an odds on shot lets you down for a barney rubble, still onwards we march!

25/jan/2011

todays bets:

Each-way double - £10
1.55 King of the Refs £12.50 e/w - lost - £25
2.10 Chilla Cilla £3.50 - lost - £3.50
2.20 Ubenkor £20 - lost - £20
2.25 Carrigeen Eile £12.50 e/w - lost - £25

today - £83.50         total - £309.70                        bank + £690.30

Well back to normal today after yesterday's small success and to be totally honest not one horse threatened to win.

The best run came from Ubenkor who made a horlicks of the start then gave more ground away before flying down the home straight to beat all bar the winner but was still nine lengths adrift at the winning post, my E/W double was pathetic and my two E/W bets where never a factor despite having money on them.

Chilla Cilla is a horse i have backed before and would have won at a big price second time out if he had not fallen when in a winning position, would have won last time out had a competant jockey rode so a tiny interest was called for.
Jumping was again terrible and was soon beaten before falling again, he has now flattened more grass in three months than Katie Price has in thirty five years and will not be carrying any more of my whisky vouchers.

So the bad run has not ended yet but my Ante-Post bet is running on Friday and could wipe out all present losses and put me ahead in one swoop so all is not lost at present, keep up the faith.

24/jan/2011

todays bets:

2.00 MT Pockets £40 - lost - £40
3.10 A Bridge Too Far £20 - won 2/1 + £40
3.50 Chilli Green £20 - won 7/4 + £35
4.35 Striker Torres £20 - lost - £20

today + £15             total  - £226.20           bank + £773.80

Well a winning start to the week with the princely sum of £15 boosting the coffers.

The day started badly with a losing bet and to be honest a horse that would have been better served pulling a cart full of white liquid, finishing one place from last and beaten before halfway, not impressed.

The next bet was ridden up with the pace and lead most of the race under AP and winning quite cosily, Chilli Green also passing the post first proving much too hot for the opposition making it consecutive winners! was my luck about to change?

My final bet Striker Torres was a healthy 7/1 and would have been a great end to my betting for the day and at least gave a decent account, just unable to score finishing second.

At least the week starts as i intended it too, lets hope for more winners during the week.

23/jan/2011

todays bets:

Golf: Mcllroy £10e/w - placed + £20
1.45 Saludos £20 - lost - £20
1.45 Flat out £40 - lost - £40
1.50 Madame Jasmine £10e/w - placed + £10
2.15 Pennys Bill £5e/w - lost - £10
2.40 Sherjawy £8 - lost - £8
3.55 Sansili £10e/w - placed - £2

today -£50             total -£241.20                       bank +£758.80

Well what can i say about today, my golf bet finished second so a small profit and the first race i had an interest in was a six runner affair and i had two in the race, the biggest of the two bets looked promising as he was taking the lead and trading odds on on BF before landing flat out at the penultimate fence and my other runner finishing tailed off last, not a good start.

Madame Jasmine scrapped a place for me to make another small profit with a fourth placed finish, Sherjawy chased the winner home but was a win only bet, Pennys Bill was making eye catching headway and looked certain to get a place at worst when a horse fell in front of him and brought him down.

My last wager of the day was an e/w bet at shortish odds on Sansili who lead coming into the home straight looking the most likely winner and in a duel after the last finished a short head second, a stewards enquiry was called after the winner had pushed my horse onto the rail but as everything possible has gone against me this week and my bad luck must be almost over the double-barrels in the stewards room failed to award my horse the race making today another losing one!

So a likely winner crashing two out, a short head loser, a possible winner brought down, another second place, a fourth place and not forgeting a golfer finishing second, things cannot get worse can they?

We start a new week tomorrow and on reflection maybe i have slightly overbet this week, something i may address next week.

22/jan/2011

todays bets:

Accumulaters £22 - lost - £22
1.40 Bold Addition £40 - lost -£40
2.00 Lakota Ghost £2 e/w - lost - £4
2.25 Somersby £6 e/w - placed + £3.60
2.50 Red Mile £5 e/w - lost - £10
2.55 Shalone £10 e/w - lost - £20
3.30 Piraya £20 e/w - lost - £40
4.05 No Secrets £20 e/w - placed + £25

today - £107.40                  total - £191.20        bank + £ 808.80

The bad run continues with a few of todays bets candidates for the Fray Bentos factory, a desperate effort from a P Nicholls horse to start with then a good run from a P Nicholls horse to scupper my e/w chances in my last bet in the ''Pull Me Out Stakes''.

In between Somersby ran a cracker but why it was necessary for the rider to change the whip hand twice after the last is beyond my brains and the difference between finishing first and second! and you guessed it was another P Nicholls horse that was the short head victor.

Piraya i backed e/w at a nice 7/1 and was pleased to see it at half that price by the time they where at the post, and being from the Pipe stable that was a wise investment.
However the race was run at a blistering pace and he was badly outpaced before deciding to run coming round the home turn and finish best of all  (you guessed in fourth place) and one place out of the money.

My Antepost bet never made it to post but hopefully will take his chance on Friday which could turn out to be a blessing as a few horses may not take up the opportunity further increasing my horses chances.

Friday 21 January 2011

21/jan/2011

todays bets:

1.25 Dynamic Rhythm £50 - lost - £50

today - £50             total - £83.80                      bank - £916.20

No turf racing today due to frost, just two sand meetings so not the best days racing and less opportunities to lose my wonga!

Just the one today a horse that hadn't run since the last supper but getting a big price seemed a wise investment given the way the price dropped quicker than Katie Price's knickers.

I was tempted to lay a bit back on BF to cover my stake but decided to go all in and lay back when he comes cruising on the bridle around the final bend, hahaha (if only) the horse was towards the rear after one shot off in front faster than a blind puff in a sausage factory, made good progress in the home straight and was finishing fastest of all but never given a chance, maybe they could look to enter it in a three and a half mile a/w handicap next time.

So on to tomorrow and hopefully we get some proper racing and the chance of a biggie in the Emerald Isle, weather permitting of course.

Thursday 20 January 2011

20/jan/2011

todays bets:

Accumulater - lost - £8
2.20 Merals Choice £6 - lost - £6
2.35 Sahara Kingdom £30 - lost - £30
3.00 Baseball Ted £80 - lost - £80
3.20 Sir Randolf £10 - lost - £10
3.50 Fantastic Fry £6 - lost - £6

today - £140                total - £33.80                        bank + £966.20

The day revolved around whether Baseball Ted could pass the line in front or not, sadly he was found wanting in all departments and never threatened to trouble the judge.

Against all known reason i thought Safari Kingdom looked a great bet even at short odds but after being slow away pushed wide around the bend and blocked in running his chance was long gone well before the lollipop, a lesson learnt, leave Meydan racing alone. Not the jockeys finest ride!

Of the other three bets also put in an e/w accumulater Sir Randolf  looked like he had a chance coming around the final bend, what the rider was doing i don't know but second was the best he could manage to end a fourth consecutive day as a loser, i should have known my luck was out when i took the dog out for a walk and a tree p**sed on him!

Trying to look on the bright side i have what looks a tasty antepost bet for Saturday weather permitting of course which will put me well in the green.

Wednesday 19 January 2011

19/jan/2011

todays bets:

12.50 Imperial Fong £4e/w - placed + £7.20
1.40 Caesars Return £20 - lost - £20
7.00 Morar £4 e/w - lost - £8
8.00 Goodbye Cash £40 - lost - £40

today - £60.80         total + £106.20                         bank + £1106.50

Another losing day, the third in a row although only four bets.

An e/w place to start with and a modest profit but that was as good as it got, Caesars Return looking booked for minor honours before a desperate half a jump at the second last ended with him being on the ground for about ten minutes, happily he lives to race another day! Then a modest e/w on Morar who finished so far last he had to tiptoe back to the stables so as not to wake the other horses.

The biggest bet of the day and a disappointing way to say goodbye to two score after such a lacklustre effort which was to be honest no surprise as it drifted in the betting beforehand, so with the hope of a better days racing tomorrow, i will say goodnight.

18/jan/2011

todays bets:

1.30 No Shenanigans £20 - lost -£20
2.20 Grudge £20 - lost -£20
3.40 Rateable Value £40 - lost -£40
4.20 Belles Beau £10 - lost -£10
4.50 Tornado Force £40 - withdrawn
5.20 Kyle Of Bute £2ew - 2nd + £4

Today -£86       Total +£167      Bank +£1167

Well what can i say about today, think it can on the record as a nearly day when everything seemed to against me but fortunately my foot has not been introduced to the tv screen today!

The first horse certainly didn't have No Shenanigans never going to win and i soon knew my fate with that one, then the lovely Hayley couldn't quite win only going down less than 1 length in second, Rateable Value again finishing second after a two horse dual in the home straight, Belles Beau might as well have stayed at home as the alarms where ringing a long way from home.

What can i say about Tornado Force, after waiting ten minutes for an 80/1 piece of unprocessed corned beef to get to the start, he then slung his pilot and was withdrawn after i had a bet at 11/4 and he was backed into evens and of course the only alternative in the betting ran like a crab with piles and just to round my day off my last wager led till the last half furlong before being headed to make it three seconds for the day.

Monday 17 January 2011

17/jan/2011

todays bets:

2.20 Steel Rain £2ew - lost - £4
3.40 Commanche Dawn £20ew - lost - £40
4.00 Hurricane Electric £16 - lost - £16

today - £60               total +£253.35        bank +£1253.35

Terrible day's racing in terrible conditions and was glad it was quiet on the betting front with only three horses worthy of carrying my whisky vouchers.

First horse was a big price and 'no legs' rode it to finish 6th, Commanche Dawn was never going too great and will be having a few later mornings i hope! and Hurricane Electric never sparked and was pulled up.

So not the best start to a new week with three candidates for the Fray Bentos factory losing me a couple of bottles af Scotlands finest but no major damage in a day which was totally uninspiring.

Sunday 16 January 2011

16/jan/2011

todays bets:

3.05 Shawkantango £2 win @ 44 BF £2 place @ 6 - won + £96.52
3.25 Imaalhall £15 - lost - £15
3.45 Takamaru £20 -lost -£20
3.45 Beside The Fire £10 e/w - 2nd + £15

today + £76.52           total + £313.35         Bank £1313.35

First things first a big welcome to my followers lets hope i can keep my head above water during the rollercoaster ahead and endure the inevitable losing runs that are part of the game.

A great start with a meanial bet on Shawkantango who got up to strike very close to the line! earning a nice little profit (why do you always kick yourself for not putting more on the big price winners?) put it on BF and the total shown is the return less the stake and commission, hence the odd amount. Imaalhall was never at the races, same with Takamara, both very weak in the market and ran accordingly although Beside The Fire ran a good race and held on well to ensure my e/w bet showed a profit, always a pain backing two in the same race but with hindsight if Beside The Fire was my only bet i may have went win only so can't grumble.

So at the end of the day apart from it getting dark! another winning day, if after only four days you had of said i would be more than twelve ponies ahead i would have been delighted.

An excellant start with a nice 4/1 winner who could have been lucky after the leader fell at second last, Safari Adventure ran a good race when finishing a head second and Binocular did the business in fine style, my ante-post 3/1 looking good for Cheltenham.
A couple of poor runs on the flat and an e/w place to finish off an excellant day.
