todays bets:

Dog Bet £20 - lost - £20
2.05 Memphis Man £10e/w - lost - £20
2.50 Schindlers Society £20e/w - lost - £40
4.20 Wigrams Turn £40 - lost - £40

today - £120                       total - £204.70                  bank + £795.30

It looks like a case of one step forward and two steps back at the moment with a desperate day today when i never had a sniff of a winner. The day started with a bet on a dog running in the steel city, after taking first show at 5/2 and watching it get backed into 13/8 i was expecting it to show his metal but it was very slow away and never threatened after that.

Memphis Man looked to have an each-way chance but i certainly wasn't singing the blues after it could manage only fifth under the female rider!
Schindlers Society was high on my list as a previous winner under similar conditions but ran an absolute stinker and was pulled up when a fence behind, but could the day get worse? too true it could.

Wigrams Turn was running on the all weather and they had seen a few quid in the offices for him so although the form was dreadful a decent run was half expected, at least this horse had a view of the leaders backside until the race started properly coming to the home turn, then in less time than a Liverpudlian can remove a car stereo he was last! a dreadful ending to a dreadful day and surely this half ton of horse will soon be processed into something different.

Tomorrow is another day and hopefully a better day.

Corned Beef

todays bets:

Double £20 - lost - £20
2.20 Roccos Hall £10 - lost -£10
2.50 Tornado Shay £10 - lost - £10
3.05 Sun Des Mottes £25 - lost - £25
4.05 Saphir Des  Bois - lost - £10

today - £75            total - £84.70                bank + £915.30

Welcome to my new followers up to double figures now, i wish i had good news for you but today was a disaster with six bets and the only winner being in a barney rubble with a loser.

Not a lot to say about today the most disappointing bet being Sun Des Mottes who looked uneasy before the race, was last most of the way and was never involved in the race and too be honest i've seen donkeys on Blackpool beach given harder races!

The one that almost gave me a return was Saphir Des Bois who followed the leader from start to finish being a length down at the finish, the other two single bets where hopeless and i had one short price winner in the double with the other leg being woeful.

So all in all a day where i should have took a step back and not really got involved as much.

29/jan/2011

todays bets:

1.25 Blue Moon £20 - DH 9/2 + £45
2.00 Bakbenscher £10 - lost - £10
3.10 Colour Clash £20e/w - placed + £8
3.35 Grand Crus £80 - won 11/4 + £220
4.10 Aather £20e/w - lost - £40
4.10 Cockney Trucker - £20e/w - placed + £35

today + £258              total  - £9.70          bank + £990.30

Welcome to my new follower hope you endure the ride!

A welcome good day which started when Blue Moon looking like he was stuck in traffic found a way through to win (or so i thought) only to be called a dead heat, upon seeing the photo on tv my horse just had his head high while the other horse 's head was down, upon checking BF Blue Moon traded at 1.03 so most people thought it had won but only a tenner was my winning stake not a score.

Bakbenscher made a few mistakes and was never likely to win, Colour Clash hit the front two out and finished a well beaten third. Then the biggest bet of the day, Grand Crus i had a few reservations about after hearing some of the 'experts' on tv saying the ground was a bit firm for him! Close to race time i was very confident when the market and exchanges saw plenty of support for him and after being towards the back early it was a pleasure to see him cut through the opposition faster than a Kenyan with a dinner ticket and the race was soon in the bag long before the home turn, a very satisfying feeling, if only i was on him for the festival but was unsure about which race he was going for, he is my banker of the meeting and will torture BB if he goes for the World Hurdle.

The 4.10 was a race where i had two running for me, Cockney Trucker jumped to the right every jump and looked like being out of the money but stayed on well for a place, Aather was ridden wide all the way and ran an extra two furlongs, why the nugget rode like that i don't know and he finished only a couple of lengths from being placed, but all in all no harm done.

So a good day which was needed! Glass of malt in my hand, takeaway soon to be delivered, dragon out at a 40th party, snooker and prizefighter on tv, will somebody please tell me i haven't died and gone to heaven?

28th/jan/2011

todays bets:

2.15 Dances With Wolves £5e/w - lost - £10
2.30 Mostly Bob £40 - won 4/1 + £160
2.55 Agus A Vic £40e/w + £20 - lost -£100
4.30 Blaise Chorus £15 - lost - £15
4.30 Westhaven £5e/w - lost -£10
5.40 Admiral Duque £6 - lost - £6
6.40 Full Bloom £10 - lost - £10

today + £9            total - £267.70                         bank + £732.30

Today very much hinged on my runner in the Emerald Isle, sadly my five score went astray when all the logic and statistics went well out of the window.
Horses with big weights can't win this race and you guessed the top weight won all four places where filled by horses at the top of the handicap, my bet Agus A Vic was pulled up before the last after never landing a blow, personally i think the ground was not soft enough for him, hence the top weights coming out on top.

Mostly Bob was a welcome winner, was pleasing on the eye as his only danger was the fences from a long way out and gave me more pleasure than a blind puff working his first shift is a sausage factory would have!

Although i was safe after Mostly Bob had won another winner would have been nice but it was not too be, five runners on the sand and not one cent returned, why Dane O'Neill was waving his stick coming round the home bend riding Westhaven was beyond me as there was nothing behind him!

Tomorrow looks sure to be a busy day and with a bit of luck a large glass of Scotch would be nice to round off a successful day, fingers crossed anyway.

27/jan/2011

todays bets:

e/w treble £2 - lost - £2
1.40 Shaking Hands £25 - won  7/2 + £87.50
1.50 Charming Lad £40 - lost - £40
4.05 Plunkett £20 - lost - £20
4.15 Laura Land £5.50 - lost - £5.50
5.20 Crystalize £10e/w - placed + £3
7.20 Methally £20e/w - lost - £40

today - £17            total - £276.70                 bank + £723.30

Another great start to the day with a nice priced winner.

Shaking Hands certainly showed his metal after being headed coming around the last turn and looking beat then staying on well coming to the second last and winning easily, things where looking good after that winner as i was just about guaranteed not to do much damage to my bank.

Charming Lad although prominent till the race started properly three hurdles from home was never going to trouble the judge and my whisky vouchers where soon waving me goodbye, Plunkett always finds one too good and today was no exception as he was booked for second before the jockey fell out of the side door after the second last, if this donkey is ever in a walkover then it surely would fall in the paddock!

Laura Land ran a good race and looked promising till the home straight, although in an apprentice race the jockey could always pursue a career directing aircraft when his riding career is over, Crystalize travelled very well from a long way back, took the lead a furlong out and got swamped just holding on for third for a small profit and my final bet couldn't get a place to make today a profitable day.

So i guess today could be classed as a damage limitation day, tomorrow could be a good day as i have a tasty bet lined up which could earn me some serious bottles of Scotland's finest, weather permitting of course!

26/jan/2011

todays bets:

Double £20 - lost - £20
Pelmanism £40 - won 5/2 + £100
Fear Nothing £5 e/w - lost - £10
Chaqueta £5 e/w - lost - £10
Stirling Bridge £10 - lost - £10

today + £50               total - £259.70         bank + 740.30

Well what can i say about today, very disappointing to be only two ponies in front after Pelmanism won with my opening bet and with a tidy double rolling onto an odds on shot things where looking good, pity it was given a very uninspiring ride after the race turned into a three furlong sprint and unable to make up the lead he had given the winner, disappointing.

Two all weather each-way bets at decent prices followed, the judge certainly did have nothing to fear from both of them. My final bet looked to have a decent chance but was yet again found seriously wanting when the gun was put to his head.

I guess i showed a small profit which is a step in the right direction, it is always a pain when an odds on shot lets you down for a barney rubble, still onwards we march!

25/jan/2011

todays bets:

Each-way double - £10
1.55 King of the Refs £12.50 e/w - lost - £25
2.10 Chilla Cilla £3.50 - lost - £3.50
2.20 Ubenkor £20 - lost - £20
2.25 Carrigeen Eile £12.50 e/w - lost - £25

today - £83.50         total - £309.70                        bank + £690.30

Well back to normal today after yesterday's small success and to be totally honest not one horse threatened to win.

The best run came from Ubenkor who made a horlicks of the start then gave more ground away before flying down the home straight to beat all bar the winner but was still nine lengths adrift at the winning post, my E/W double was pathetic and my two E/W bets where never a factor despite having money on them.

Chilla Cilla is a horse i have backed before and would have won at a big price second time out if he had not fallen when in a winning position, would have won last time out had a competant jockey rode so a tiny interest was called for.
Jumping was again terrible and was soon beaten before falling again, he has now flattened more grass in three months than Katie Price has in thirty five years and will not be carrying any more of my whisky vouchers.

So the bad run has not ended yet but my Ante-Post bet is running on Friday and could wipe out all present losses and put me ahead in one swoop so all is not lost at present, keep up the faith.
